Papua New Guinea and Me!

Now THIS is what I am going to be missing everyday for the next three long weeks of my life! I love this guy!

This weekend Davers and I decided to just chill in the sunshine all day at the gorgeous Roma St. Parklands. The flowers are in full bloom and this beautiful oasis is basically our back yard...right in the middle of the city, you can escape from it all. It was the perfect way to enjoy each others company before we endure almost a month apart :(

The time apart is especially hard for me right now because this weekend, for the first time, we wont be together for our anniversary. Eight amazingly fabulous years together, I am so lucky to share all of my dreams and adventures everyday with my very best friend and the love of my life!

I took some time out of the day to take a few lovey dovey snaps in ode to our time together, and how far we have come.

On Wednesday I will depart for Papua New Guinea to work out in the jungle for a three week field rotation. That means 10 hours a day for 21 days straight, my friends! I am totally stoked to get out of the office and out to site. I will be heading to the Western province of PNG and can expect to be hot hot hot in the tropical heat! It will be an amazing opportunity to learn hands-on and to realistically put into perspective the calculations and number crunching that I do on a daily basis!  I will be staying at a mine camp near Tabubil, and I know the experience is going to be one I won’t forget. Plus, I keep telling myself I can survive three weeks of anything I put my mind to! I’m really positive and grateful for this opportunity.

Tomorrow I will finish packing up my work clothes and comfort items, but I feel set to go now that Dave has treated me to an enthusistic "work clothing" shopping spree (not to be confused with a regular "fun" shopping spree - big difference!!). Wicking T's, pants that are light and airy, and uber fast to dry when the rain eventually stops, solid work boots (scuffed up so they don't look too new) and special bamboo socks so my tootsies can still breathe in there...Dave has me covered and it makes me feel more comfortable knowing he hasn't missed a beat in helping me to sort out my gear.

As they often say, distance makes the heart grow fonder, and I know that this is true. Of course I am going to miss that handsome smile that greets me each and every day. But when I get back we plan to enjoy some time off seeing more of this remarkable country we are calling home for another year!

It’s hard to believe that we have officially reached the one year anniversary marking our gigantic move across the pond to Brisbane. This year has been a whirlwind of crazy, busy, beautiful life in Oz! I am slightly saddened to think that the time we have left in Oz is less than the time we have been here, because there are so many wonderful memories that we have built here in our mini family of two.

I will be away from the blog for now until I get back in mid August. Leave me a comment as I may be able to read them from site. I will report back on my field experience soon my friends! In the mean time, hug your lovelies and appreciate the little moments! Chat soon.

'La FĂȘte Nationale' Festival le quatorze juillet

The birth of a mini photoblog!

Hello blogosphere!
After a recent scare -- ok that’s putting it mildly-- it was more like a panic stricken, lose all control, massive heart attack – over the weekend, I have been reminded of the significance of photographs and what they really mean to me. I’ve been using this old dog of a computer for about 3 years now and Dave and I always joke that it’s going to spontaneously combust any day now because we treat it like a heaping pile of junk sometimes. Neither one of us knows a thing about virus control or fire walls and so in the midst of mad button clicking, as I often do to get the pop-ups off my screen ASAP, I randomly clicked on a security warning, and in a flash deleted every single file I had on my computer!!! Gasp...is that even possible?? I can attest to that, that yes, unfortunately it is! And to make matters worse, I had an external hard drive sitting in my desk drawer and hadn’t bothered to back up my files since Christmas time – that was soo half a year ago! Yikes. I'll cut to the chase, the good news is that smarty pants IT guy at the office was able to recover my long lost files, aka photos, that so devotedly hold all of our cherished memories....thank goodness. But a lesson was learned in the flash that I lost it all, and that was just how much these pictures mean to me! They are the single documents that detail our every adventure... two lovebirds who have set out to see the world though their own eyes and dance in the streets where the stars are upside down, a half a world away. This precious time we have spent growing together in unfamiliar territory is a time to cherish (not to mention we are gonna need this evidence to look back on someday when we are old and grey and losing our marbles!) So in ode to all that was almost lost, I have decided to take up a little challenge to post a picture each day of the weekend as a mini photoblog project (minus when I will be heading out to site for field work – more on that to come!).
I have tried to create a new link above (next to 'Home'), called Wanderlust...a place to document our itching feet and hungry minds! For now the photos will be scattered between these posts on the main page until I learn how to separate them. I hope you enjoy coming along on more of our crazy rides.

Life On The Run

Big news!! Dave and I have survived the Gold Coast 10km race last weekend! We didn’t really spend a lot of time prepping for the run, so we were really proud of ourselves for crossing the finish line just over the 1 hour mark. Yep, that meant no stopping for this girl, good thing Davers was pushing me through it, or I would have definitely took a power walk a time or two or three. But we actually had a blast, and it felt amazing to finish our first race, together as a team. The pictures posted here are to show the shabby scenery we were forced to take in as we ran along the coastline at Southport...painful isn't it?! Beaches, yacht clubs, surf and sand...I guess if we have to run 10 kms somewhere, it might as well be by the sea!

We are already scheming up some plans for our next race to enter...the Bridge to Brisbane in September.

After the race I had a photography lesson on the gold coast for a couple hours, so when we got back to Brissy we were ready for some hard earned R&R.

Tomorrow is our last game of the season for Touch Footy...hard to believe we survived the league, but it was a total riot. Sad to see the end of such a legacy haha can’t wait for next season to start up again!

Road Trippin' to Bargara

Hey y’all! My apologies for being slow to get another post up, life has been keeping us very busy lately with no signs of a slow down in the near future! And as irony would have it, I went from posting 3 blogs in one week to no new material for almost a month! But I have been working on some new stuff lately and this post is chocked full of photographic evidence of our busy schedule! (My appologies in advance...these pictures are quite small and so dark?! They dont look like that before i post to the blog...hmm might have to fix that!)

Last weekend Davey & I hit the open road on a weekend road trip to Bundaberg (yep that's the bus we rolled up in and then we had to cross the river in this boat...jk~). Actually, we were headed to the quaint seaside town of Bargara, which is just east of Bundy...about four and a half hours north of Brisbane. We had previously visited the one horse town of Bundaberg in 2009, home of the infamous rum distillery, and that's about it. So, this time around we were on a mission to visit a friend, Mel (who happened to be placed at Bargara on a work assignment).
These are some of the pictures I took as we stopped to have a stroll and stretch of the legs along the way.

There were so many cute little beach towns dotting the coastline on route our five hour journey. We stopped at a place called Tin Can Bay to frolick in the sand...unfortunately for me I fell right out of that boat, and suffered minor injuries doing so...thank goodness were weren't actually on water!

Once Dave & I reached our destination for the evening we enjoyed the yet another beautiful sunset over the ocean and had a yummy BBQ with Melly at her resort complex. (Again, so dark and tiny...darn!)

In the morning we woke up with the birds and headed out in our jammies to watch the sun rise over the ocean. I just love this time of the day...probably because I don’t see it nearly enough!

After brekkie we turned around and began our five hour venture back to the city, but not without a much needed stop for some sexie coffie...hey, we all need a little pick me up like this to get through such a long drive. And, yes, incase you were wondering, that's totally how i drink my coffee too...balanced gently on folded knees...doesn't everyone?

It should also be noted that Dave and I believe we have found where Noah’s ark washed up on shore...its in the Bundaberg area in case anyone is still looking for it?! Could have come in handy during the Brisbane floods of biblical proportions...what a waste.

Anyways friends, thats the story of our weekend roadie, glad we could share it with you! Check back for more adventures of Tegs & Dave shortly...I will have more photos to share of our first race together, which we ran on Saturday and lived to tell the tale!

Ps- feel free to leave a comment and let me know what kind of material you like to see on the blog...this means more than just the regular commentators...the fabulous Sheri Carl and my mom! haha (love you both!)
