Another trip around the sun

As you already know from my last post, the boy had a birthday..here's a sneak peak into how he spent his day.

Somebody got a hole in one!

We feasted, alfesco style, on a roast dinner and the topped the night off with a whipped-rolo-brownie birthday cake that I made on request by the birthday boy. It was a gOoOd day.

My Birthday Babe

It’s celebration time at our house as Dave turns 26 today!!! He has already received the best present he could ever ask for with his parents arrival in Brissy yesterday, but we will do our best to spoil him today too. So in honour of such an amazing guy, here are 26 things about my babe on his birthday!

1.       He sleeps with one eye (partially) open, and it is (completely) creepy. I usually try to slide it shut when I notice, so I don’t feel like I’m being watched.

2.       He tells me some pretty extravagant stories while he sleeps. Once, he warned me that the lions can only handle so much playground foods! Like what?? I had to ask, not entirely sure what playground foods entail. Like dipping sauce and stuff he said.
So please, for Dave’s sake, do not feeds the lions too much of your dipping sauces.

3.       He might just starve if it weren’t for the faithful marriage of peanut butter and jam. Or maybe if it weren’t for the invention of peanut butter in general.

4.       He has a mean scar on the back of his head from a rowdy summer day out at the lake in Vernon. His loving girlfriend dared him to attack a gnarly stunt off a dock that left him being rescued by his bestie from the water and held together with 8 stitches.

5.       His baby blue eyes get me every time.

6.       He will read any book he can get his fingers on (including a wide selection of my girlie reads)...and usually doesn’t put the book down until he’s read every last word between the front and back cover. This has resulted in his own personalized version of the “hunger games” when he read the three book series for three straight days and didn’t stop for dinner.

7.       He has the most amazing work ethic. And he can get up at any hour and function like a true champ. Right now most of his days begin at about 5am, an hour which doesn’t even exist in my world.

 8. He once got mistaken for an AFL rugby player from the Adelaide Crows while patiently waiting for me to try on some clothes out shopping one day. The lady point right at him and shouted HEY! You play for the crows dont you?! Nope, no I'm from Canada.

9.       He loves loves LOVES all movies. He loves to travel. His favorite color is green.

10.   He dreams of owning his own company.

11.   He is my best friend. My partner in crime. My one true love.

12.   He could just surf from the first time he tried...this type of thing happens a lot, he's just awesome like that. When he isn’t riding waves he loves to long board.

13.   We make the best team. Ever.

14.   His friends mean the world to him, and he has some pretty darn good ones.

15.   He has a gorgeous family. His parents would do anything for that boy. His Grandma & Grandpa are a true inspiration and mean everything to him. He is Uncle Dave to 4 super cute kiddies.

16.   He has the brightest smile and the best belly laugh.

17.   He is a bit of a history buff...and loves learning all there is to know about the war.

18.   He has three beautiful sisters and three more sisters-to-be. And if there is any guy on this planet that can handle six strong sisters...you’re looking at him! He is the adored baby brother by his sisters and the best big brother that my sisters never had.

19.   He craves four seasons in his life...and though I’ve suggested it ...spring, summer, beach and more summer don’t count apparently.

20.   He once broke his bicycle attempting to carry over 20 bottles of wine home after salvaging them from a demolition job when the Brisbane floods over took the local Polo Club.

21.   He shares his name with his dad and grandpa...all three are David Dow. If that wasn’t confusing enough things really got mystifying when little dave became bigger than big dave but they are both a pretty awesome pair.

22.   He can bake precisely one recipe...the subway chocolate chip cookie. It usually takes two days to come to fruition as this baker lets the dough set for 24 hrs, before popping the bad boys into the oven! But he makes one heck of a giant heart shaped cookie.

23.   I can’t bring him to yoga with me anymore because he makes me burst out in laughter, which can be wildly inappropriate at times.

24.   In grade 7 he dozed off into a daydream and shattered the silence in the room when he blurted out “KISS ME you fool!” leaving the entire class in hysterics.

25.   He taught me how to do a slap shot on the outdoor rink in Grade 9. It was probably the highlight of that year for me.

26.   I could keep writing for days, but I’ll end the list at 26 like I said that I would. Last, but surely not least, this world has been a brighter place since 26 years ago...and I am forever grateful for that!

Happy Birthday Babe!

I love you to the moon and back,

Gimme some fin

Holy moses, is it seriously March already?! We have another busy month ahead of us with Daveys birthday fast approaching and the arrival of his parents for a nice long stay...so much to look forward to this month! If its anything like February we better not blink or we're gonna miss it! So without further ado, here is more of our last month in review!

The surf was up in Feb and we spent most of our free days in the ocean, falling in love with our new board!

(Remember our new ride back in November??

The Bra Boys!
The sunny coast is one of our fav spots in tropical Queensland and every time we are there, we ask ourselves why we don’t go more often?! This time we had the best reason to be there. By day, we were soaking up some rays on the sand and by night we were still chilling in the same spot as dusk fell over the beach.

Spotted at Noosa Main Beach: Kelly Slater...11 time ASP World Surfing Champ crushing the waves??...no, wait it's Kelly Rogers.
Saturday sista sesh!

We upped the fun factor as the sun began to set, only to discover that what happens in Noosa stays...recorded on the weather camera. Well im sure someone will get a kick out of that one later ;)

After Noosa, we headed further up the coast to Bargara to meet some pretty rad new friends. I mean, how cute are these little dudes?! We watched them dig their way from a hatching nest deep within the sand all the way up to the beach. In the dark of night, they are making the long journey to the sea to get to the East Australian Current. Remember: rip it, roll it, and punch it.
Whoa! That was so cool! Hey dad! Did you see that? Did you see me? Did you see what I did?
You so totally rock, Squirt! Gimme some fin.
It’s a super big feat for these tiny squirts and sadly not all of them will make it. But at Mon Reapo the rangers are there to help give each turtle the best chance of making it alive to the great big ocean. They are on their own from there. We lucked out big time and got two see two different species hatching that night, both loggerhead and flatback babes, which are highly protected species that are becoming endangered in recent years. We even learned something new that night: The sex of a turtle is determined by the temperature of the sand in which the eggs are laid!! So if a nest is in a cooler spot of the beach sweet darling girls are born, and if the nest is in a warmer area little dudes emerge from the sand. How cool is that?!

It definitely puts into perspective just how significant our human impact can be on the precious environment. Going green is gorgeous, my friends. If not for any other reason, do it for these little squirts! (NO! Not us, the Turtles!!!)
