Singapore – Day 1 (18/12/11)
We landed in Singapore this morning in style after being
upgraded to business class on our 7 hour flight from Brisbane. Let me tell you,
it was pure luxury considering Air Emirates is a superior airline to fly with
even in economy. We soaked in all the fabulousness that was on offer and had
the best flight ever in fully reclined mode. Once we landed in Singapore we
jetted right through baggage claim and took a quick shuttle from the airport to
Mitraa Inn to meet up with Brina, who was waiting on us and her luggage, which
was yet to arrive from Vancouver. The three of us filled up on free brekky (coffee,
bananas, eggs and toast), sorted out our storage and then headed out from our
cute little abode to find adventure in the city.
First stop was busy little India. Tons of bright and
colourful authentic shops squeezed in tight together selling all sorts of trinkets
and grub.
The area is dotted with fascinating mosques and temples and it wasn`t
long before we stumbled upon the Shi Sha shop (which is basically a Hooka street
lounge, if you can call it that). We looked it over and thought...When in Rome!
So there we were just taking in the atmosphere of Arab St and some hubbly
bubbly, learning the ropes of Hooka from the shop owner and having a wild time.
But the fun was eventually tamed and we moved onwards once we found some coffee
to go – no bag, just a handle please and thanks!!
We thought this was hilarious
and with some new fuel in the system we continued our trek through Singy to the
art museum and the shopping megatron known as Orchard Road. After over eight
hours trotting on our own steam, we checked the pedometer to discover that we
had embarked on a journey of 15,346 steps today. When we got back to the hostel
we checked to see if our feet were still attached at the ankles ...and they were!
So that means we will be off adventuring all over again tomorrow! If today has
been any indication of what`s to come, we can’t wait to see what’s next!
